Background

When you are in doubt about the quality of engine, hydraulic or fuel oil, suspecting excessive water or low TBN levels, a quick check with an Aeoliki test kit can provide the assurance you need or prompt you to further investigation and to the only foolproof way of monitoring the condition of the luboils.

They can be used for a combination of tests, enabling ship's staff to assess:

Condition of the lubricating oil, including insolubles
Viscosity and density of the lubricant or fuel
Presence of water, and level of TBN
Stability of two fuels before mixing them
Ignition quality of the fuel
